Responsible Solar Massachusetts’ mission is to to stop inappropriate industrial solar projects in the state while supporting an equitable and responsible transition to clean energy.
Our state hosts millions of acres of forests, farms and wetlands. Intact ecosystems support innumerable species as well as the clean the air and water that humans depend on for life. It is our natural world that makes living in Massachusetts special and does the best work of reducing our carbon footprint.
But our forests, farms and wetlands are under attack. Developers plan to clearcut up to 100,000 more acres of MA forests for solar development, destroying valuable, biodiverse habitat, polluting our waters, and upending local communities.
Responsible Solar Massachusetts is working to preserve our natural lands, fight to pass new legislation, and organize to ensure that our clean energy future does not come at the cost of nature’s best climate warriors.
After all, climate change mitigation is not just about reducing fossil fuel emissions. We not only need to reduce emissions, but actually sequester CO2 that has already been emitted. Restoring and expanding forests is the only means under our control to achieve this at scale. Subsequently, anything that undermines forest carbon uptake is actively undermining climate mitigation. We cannot pit solar against forests and must ensure that we expand forests, not destroy them.
As a grassroots coalition of individuals who care deeply about climate resiliency, environmental health, our communities and democracy, we rely on you to help us reach our goal.
With your donation we can continue to educate the public and help vulnerable communities to prevent irresponsible and highly damaging industrial solar installations from being installed where they will do much more harm than good. We will also work hard to ensure that appropriate solar siting and other true clean energy solutions are implemented as quickly as possible throughout the state.
